Let’s make this clear. There are two Springfields on Route 66 — Illinois and Missouri. We’re leaving the one in Illinois heading to Saint Louis, Missouri. Before we head out we are going to go to Lincoln’s Tomb.

Waking up Normal is not something I normally do. Normally, I get up, read my scriptures, shave, shower and… well… you know the routine. I do not look forward to showering in this disgusting Motel 6 bathroom. It’s so bad I will not photograph it. I’ve seen worse at old Boy Scout Camps where you expect to rough it.
This is a continuation of day 2 as we’re going to Normal. Today I kept thinking about the scene in Young Doctor Frankenstein when Doctor Frankenstein asks Igor about the brain Igor brought him. “Abby… Abby Normal.”
Today’s recap starts in Joliet Illinois, which is just south of Chicago. It is host to a very nice museum. It is also home to Route 66 Soda. Yes, they make Route 66 Beer (a play on words – it’s root beer).
Chicago south to Joliet is an interesting drive. As you get away from downtown, parking becomes more available even though you are surrounded by tall buildings.
