Start of Week Two
It’s the start of week two. Week one went quickly, and here we are starting a new week. We’re in Springfield, Missouri, this morning. Let’s see what Springfield has to offer.
Before we hit the road I looked at the hotel’s free breakfast. Hmmm… eggs… sausage patties… english muffin. It’s time for a sandwich.
As we’re heading out I spot this cluster of construction markers. Let’s play a game? Where’s Paul?
Yeah, he’s hiding in there somewhere.
I waited for this orange truck to pass before snapping the photo. There’s a lot of orange here on Route 66… at least at this location.
Behind me I then notice this overgrown old motel. There was a board there with building permits. It appears someone is restoring it. Cool! Might be something to look for next time traveling Route 66.
Next door is an abandoned Drive-In Movie Theater. We drove back there only to hear, “Hey, get out of here. You’re on private property.”
“Okay, sorry. We’re leaving right now,” I yelled back.
Paul was driving and before we got to the street the man was out there taking pictures of us with his cell phone.
“Honestly, had we known it was private property we wouldn’t have gone back there,” I said, “We’re sorry.”
He then explained he chases off a lot of drug dealers and undesirables. He saw that we were decent folks. We gave him our card and told him about our trip, and he seemed okay with us. Besides, we were leaving.
Right after leaving we had a little mishap with the car. We pulled over and discovered a piece of trim came off. I snapped it back on and we were good to go again. No harm or damage done.
Frozen Custard at Andy’s
We see this retro looking Andy’s Frozen Custard shop. It’s close to lunchtime, but neither of us are ready for lunch so we stopped for a frozen custard.
While we were there eating our frozen custard, a minivan full of young adults pulled up. It was like watching the little car in the circus when all of the clowns pile out. Only, this was a minivan and a bunch of young adults.
We asked where they were from. The told us they are all on the Florida State Swim Team and came to Springfield to escape Hurricane Irma. We asked them to pose for a group shot.
So, we leave our new friends and I see this sign for Anton’s Coffee Shop. Doesn’t that look like an ice cream cone on their sign? It sure does to me.
